AGIA GALINI BEACH
In the picturesque village of Agia Galini, narrow alleys lead down to a small harbor filled with fishing boats, where visitors can enjoy authentic Cretan cuisine and warm hospitality.
Walking through the village towards the port and beach, you will find a wide variety of restaurants serving traditional Cretan and Greek dishes, fresh fish, and local specialties. There are also traditional cafés offering Cretan raki and meze, as well as cafes, bars, mini markets, kiosks, bakeries, pharmacies, and shops with gifts and jewelry.
According to mythology, the rock used by Daedalus and Icarus to escape King Minos and fly to freedom is located at the port of Agia Galini. A monument with their statues stands there today, offering an impressive view of the sea.
The walk from the harbor to Agia Galini Beach takes only 2–3 minutes and is very scenic. The beach itself is quiet and clean, with sunbeds and umbrellas available, as well as nearby restaurants, cafés, and small shops.
From the port, visitors can also take boat trips to nearby beaches such as Agios Georgios, Agios Pavlos, and Preveli.
Thanks to its central location, Agia Galini is an excellent base for exploring Crete. Travelers can easily reach archaeological and tourist sites by car, bus, taxi, or organized tours.
It is also a great starting point for hiking routes leading to nearby mountain villages on the slopes of Mount Psiloritis, as well as to surrounding beaches.
